Research: My research involves utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to try and understand the flight mechanisms employed by the smallest insects. I am currently using two-dimensional immersed boundary CFD simulations to determine the wing flexibility and stroke plane angle combination that generates the maximum aerodynamic efficiency and the combination of the same parameters that generates the highest energy efficiency in the flight of the smallest insects. Such research can be utilized to design micro-robotic flyers and can aid in the biological control of agricultural pests.
