Equip Your Genius Parallax Training in Micro:bit
Professional Development Event for Educators
The DSA hosted over 40 K-14 educators from across the state of Arizona to learn from Parallax, a hardware and software developer with a passion for education outreach. Aristides (Ari) Alvarez, Parallax's Vice President presented an introductory lesson in micro:bit, a micro-computer developed for the K-14 classroom. Along with donating the technology needed for this lesson, Ari also brought 2 presenters from cyber.org to provide an introduction to cyber security. In addition, we had workshops on culturally responsive CS pedagogy, micro:bit and code.org and lastly a workshop put on by one of our own Natives Who Code educator in data logging. Our half day conference was free for our educators and highly praised by our attendees. Building community amongst like-minded data science educators, we were able to promote upcoming events in the data science education world such as the upcoming Educators in Data Science Fellowship open application, the Natives Who Code upcoming application and other fantastic opportunities to stay connected.
